How does coaching work?

Coaching gives you an opportunity to take time out from your busy schedule to spend time thinking about what you really want and how you are going to achieve it.  Coaching is a focused approach which assists you in setting appropriate objectives and the means of achieving them.  A coach will work closely with you to consider your current beliefs and behaviours around work and non-work activities and help you make the changes to achieve greater integration.  He/She will challenge you on your commitment to those changes and encourage you to remove obstacles to achieve them.

Coaching is a supportive environment in which you can develop your vision, clarify your goals and define precisely how you are going to attain your objectives.

Coaching brings different benefits to different people but the most important things your coach will do is provide a creative space, listen to what you want and ask well-aimed, challenging questions which encourage you to think things through. They will encourage you to be specific about where you would like to be and explore options for getting there, to choose from those options and then make it happen.

When working from an existential perspective, your coach will recognise the role of Myths, those unquestioned assumptions which limit your horizons, and put in place the right support structures so that you can deal with the anxiety that change inevitably entails.  Above all, a coach is on your side and will travel your journey with you so that you can learn more about yourself and what makes you happy.

Who benefits from Coaching to achieve greater work life integration

Here are some of the people who benefit from coaching:

  • Busy professionals who want a better balance between the various parts of their lives
  • Self employed individuals who welcome support, focus and challenge
  • People with opportunities who want to ensure they make the right choices for themselves
  • Employed people who want to make a living from doing what they love
  • Anyone who wants to create more balance between work and leisure in their lives
  • Anyone who has a specific goal but finds difficulty in marshalling their resources to achieve them
  • Individuals who feel their lives have become too routinised and lack creative outlet
  • People who want to learn to do less
  • Employed people who want to prepare for a remarkable retirement

Coaching Options:

We offer a number of options in order for one to one coaching to be successful:

Option 1:
Regular (e.g. weekly) face-to-face sessions are held where you explore your work/life choices to date.  The consequences of those choices in your current life are examined and further options explored.  The nature and order in which topics are explored is client-led with input and direction offered by the coach.

Option 2:
Regular (e.g. monthly) face-to-face sessions are held, together with weekly telephone support to assist you in realising your set objectives.  This process is valuable for people who have difficulty in attending regular face-to-face sessions or who are highly self-motivated and who do not require weekly face-to-face support.

Option 3:
Regular sessions (either face to face and/or telephone support) are held which mirror the content and order of a group workshop.  The most pervasive of the Myths (The Identity Myth & The Group Myth) are fully explored in your work and personal life and include homework exercises to be done in your private time.

Work Life Integration Workshops

Why attend a workshop?

Many of us wonder why we are not happy despite achieving many of the things we have set out to accomplish.  We may have the career, relationship and the lifestyle we planned but something is missing.  Many of us start out on a path we believe will bring us happiness and for many it does.  However, most of us are influenced by the rules, expectations and pressures of others who have chosen a similar path before.  Instead of freedom and enjoyment, our lives become bogged down with duty and obligation. It is difficult to change and alone we are often unable to find the impetus to challenge our existing lives.

Workshops provide you with an opportunity to work with others to reflect on your life choices to date and identify your future direction. Once you have identified the nature and influence of specific Myths, you will be able to more meaningfully explore your own options and life choices.  Through the language of Myths, you will be able to explore your options and future direction.

What do workshops include?

Group workshops are an ideal way to gain a clear understanding of how your choices can be expanded and how you can more fully create a life of freedom and enjoyment.  The programme is demanding but will give you an opportunity to examine your current lifestyle and develop a vision for the future.

Workshops are modularly based and form part of a series of one-day workshops.  Each subsequent workshop builds on material and work done in earlier workshops.  Attendees are encouraged to do pre-course preparation to ensure they gain the most from the day.  Whilst each workshop stands alone, full benefit will be gained if the Identity and Group Myths workshops are attended early on.

By the end of the workshop you will have looked, in some detail, at your lifestyle and have some clarity about your ideal future.  Your vision can then be used as the yardstick against which to evaluate future options.

Each workshop includes:

  • Individual & paired exercises examining your choices to date and your current values
  • Identifying your future direction and not one you have been dictated
  • Input on the nature and impact of specific Myths
  • Designing a vision to guide your future direction
  • Exercises to transform your dream into reality

Each workshop includes a follow-up one hour individual coaching session to define more clearly your specific direction and means to keep you on track.
